Wings of the Hawk is a solid western by Budd Boetticher which, despite its conventional narrative style, is convincing thanks to Van Heflin's strong performance and the exciting, albeit familiar, plot. Heflin, as a former soldier and pragmatic hero, brings depth to his character, who is torn between personal ambitions and moral dilemmas. Boetticher skillfully uses the setting and the dynamics between the characters to create tension. Wings of the Hawk is a respectable western that offers an experience worth seeing, especially for fans of the genre.
