Steve Austin is one of NASA's most successful test pilots. One day, the unthinkable happens: His plane goes into a spin and the earth comes at him like a wall. Steve intercepts the plane at the last second and crash lands. The consequences for him are horrific - one arm and both legs have to be amputated. After four weeks, he awakens from a deep unconsciousness and simultaneously learns the devastating truth about a research project of a large corporation that wants to invest six million dollars in the development of an artificial human being. Having no alternative, he agrees to this operation, which is supposed to restore all his bodily functions. Of course, the industry bosses have a precise plan of what they want to do with the 'new' Steve.
