In the early 1930s, Kansas is suffering from a severe drought. Swindler Bill Starbuck takes advantage of this by tricking the rural population into believing that he can produce rain for 100 dollars. On H.C. Curry's cattle ranch, the situation is particularly bad as his daughter Lizzie is unable to find a husband. Starbuck appears to be the ideal solution, although at first he only pulls off his swindle. To save Lizzie and the family, however, he has to do more, as the brothers Noah and Jim are also at odds. But then there's the fact that Lizzie suddenly has to choose between two men .
