Lt. Brian Fleming volunteers to be flogged for a trumped-up offense and then discharged from the British Navy. Now he can infiltrate Diego Suarez's pirate stronghold, using his whip-scarred back as proof of his disgrace. While gathering inside information about this stronghold, he falls in love with Jessica Stephens, who is also being courted by pirate captain John Avery. At the same time, he has to fend off the advances of an amorous Mughal princess who has recently been captured. Events reach their climax in a battle on board when Fleming's true motives are revealed.
"The King's Pirate" features perfect thrills, action, adventure, swashbuckling and the dazzling spectacle of swordplay. Although the story has been told before, a tight plot and nice interpretation from the cast helps here. It's a great remake of the movie "Against All Flags" (1952) by George Sherman with Errol Flynn, Maureen O'Hara and Anthony Quinn with cuts from the original movie. The star Doug McClure from the western series "The Shiloh Ranch People" as a likeable adventurer willingly takes on the kind of problems once reserved for Tony Curtis. He plays a rather handsome British officer who sneaks into a band of pirates to infiltrate them and has to work smart and fast to put a stop to them. He is assisted by the gorgeous Bond girl and former Miss America Jill St. John as the amorous Jessica Stephens. The supporting cast includes Kurt Kasznar, Richard Deacon, Torin Thacher, Woodrow Parfrey and Sean McGlory.
