Catherine confesses to the police that she shot her husband's first wife, Stella, over two years ago. Her confession takes the police back to a time when she met and married Nick Girard. They both moved into the apartment of Nick and his dead wife Stella. Catherine never really feels at home there. Her insecurity and paranoia increase when she begins to see things that others do not see. The house also seems to have a strange life of its own, making Catherine question her sanity. After an attack by a stranger and the death of her cat, she seeks help from Charlie, a highly gifted mathematician whose research attempts to prove two parallel existences in a parallel dimension. After the mysterious death of a friend, a fatal attack on Charlie and a new entry in the dead Stella's diary, Catherine begins to track down the dead woman. She has no idea what awaits her.
