In 1921, the daring pilot Billy Mitchell does everything in his power to prove the strength of the American air force by trying to sink a German battleship. Although he succeeds, he is demoted and transferred. Several incidents and crashes occur at his new base in Texas and Mitchell publicly criticizes the Army. He is court-martialed.
