Poet, designer, filmmaker, Jean Cocteau was one of the most influential figures of the 20th Century. A famed polymath, he often invoked his own reflection in his work. From 1930 to 1960, his films marked French cinema with their audacity, their unique writing and their visionary special effects in sumptuous black and white.
Jean Cocteau gave the cinema a truly abstract piece of work as his swansong, in which the mind of a poet (played by Cocteau himself) takes control of reality, twisting and re-moulding it until it bears not the slightest resemblance to reality as we know it in real life.
