"Nitro" is set in and around Hong Kong and Jack Palance plays Rick Masters (now that's a cinematic name for a hero), an American jack-of-all-trades who enjoys a laid-back lifestyle with his lover, nightclub "hostess" Alizia Gur (who competed in the memorable catfight with Martine Beswick in 'Love Greetings from Moscow'). Inspired by 'The Magnificent Seven', Masters is approached by farmers from an impoverished village. They inform him that a ship has recently run aground on their island and the crew have abandoned it because of its cargo: a gigantic load of highly volatile nitroglycerine. The farmers offer Masters a 50/50 share of the profits if he can smuggle the goods to Hong Kong and sell them on the black market. However, there is a catch. The nitro shipment is the property of Nico Patrai, a local gangster boss, who warns the farmers to hand over the goods or their village will be destroyed. Masters accepts the job and contacts his usual associates: Vigo, who now has to organize bus trips for tourists, Jimmy, an up-and-coming boxer and martial arts expert from the area, and his British manager Ian. They are outnumbered and outgunned, so they have to use their instincts to outwit Patrai.
