Young Jewish cantor Yussel Rabinovitch seemingly leads a happy life with his wife Rivka. Outwardly, he leads a life devoted entirely to religion and church music, guided by his respected father, the community's rabbi. However, Yussel secretly writes songs for a colorful jazz vocal group under the name "Jess Robin" and occasionally demonstrates his singing talent there as well. When rock musician Keith Lennox hears one of Jess' songs, he is more than enthusiastic and invites Jess to join him in L.A. There Jess soon meets the attractive artist agent Molly, who introduces him to the showbiz of the media city. But the threshold of success that Jess now faces threatens to change his life forever...
