Police officers Michael Keneely and Patrick Farrel are committed to working for the vice squad in Los Angeles, but find themselves constantly held back by their superiors. Apparently, influential people in the city administration and the police force are keeping a protective hand over a gangster boss who is not only doing good business with call-girl clubs. So the two of them try to put a dirty stop to the arrogant dark horse on their own initiative.
Director Peter Hyams was a television newsreader before turning to film. in 1974, he made his debut with this action-packed crime thriller, for which he also wrote the screenplay. Hyams sarcastically and snarkily depicts the desolate state of the police and justice system. Because he also targets homosexuals in some scenes, there were fierce protests in the USA at the time.
