In the early '90s, cult filmmaker Wong Kar Wai and fellow Hong Kong director Jeff Lau established Jet Tone Films, an independent production company that has been responsible for some of the most remarkable films to have emerged from the region.
THE EAGLE SHOOTING HEROES (Jeff Lau):
Based upon the same famous Louis Cha novel and sharing much of the same star cast as Wong Kar Wai’s "Ashes of Time" this wicked parody of the Wu Xia Pian martial arts genre – with action sequences choreographed by Sammo Hung (Enter the Dragon) – is one of Hong Kong cinema’s most beloved cult classics.
FIRST LOVE: LITTER ON THE BREEZE (Eric Kot Man Fai):
First love happens once in a lifetime; one cannot foretell how and when it happens or rewrite history when it’s over. Sharing Wong Kar Wai’s highly visual romantic style and cinematographer Christopher Doyle, Eric Kot Man Fai's directorial debut tells two affecting tales of first love, before and after.
AWAY WITH WORDS (Christopher Doyle):
Tadanobu Asano plays a drifter who jumps ship from Okinawa and winds up in a bar owned by a gay, alcoholic Australian (Kevin Sherlock). This tale of drifting souls looking for solace from the gridlock of memories that fill their mind is the visually hypnotic directorial debut of acclaimed cinematographer Christopher Doyle.
