Robert Montgomery and Carole Lombard star in this romantic comedy directed by Alfred Hitchcock. David and Ann manage to keep happily married by following one rule: should they quarrel, neither one was to leave the bedroom until they had finally made up. Sometimes this rule kept David away from his law office for a week, but his partner, Gene Raymond, did not complain. After one such session lasting three days, David and Ann finally make up and he goes to his office. His first visitor is the man who first married them, who informs David that, owing to a technicality, he and his wife are not legally married.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith was a Hitchcock rarity - a romantic comedy, but it is still full of the directors' deft touches. Norman Krazna's superb screenplay twists conventional characters and plot patterns to make this a beguiling winner.
