A world-exclusive anime companion to the infamous, hyper-violent Japanese psychological thriller “Ichi the Killer”, this animated feature, penned by original series creator Hideo Yamamoto, is significantly more shocking and controversial than its live-action counterpart. Shamelessly underpinned with glorious blood-splattered battles and sadistic sexual debauchery, the “Fun for all the Family” ethos has been emphatically “thrown out the window” to make way for a disturbing, visceral and often savage kaleidoscope of rampant comic-book violence.
Tracing the genesis of Ichi’s inner rage and detailing the previously untouched history of his schooldays and interaction with his parents, this joyfully excessive anime provides a unique insight into the main themes of the live-action adventure, in much the same way as “The Animatrix” illuminated the origins of the much-celebrated “Matrix Trilogy”.
Fans will delight in the fact that Takashi Miike, the director of Ichi the Killer [Live-action] and “Audition”, provides the voice for the pivotal character of Kakihara.
