One fateful night in 1959, Thomas Reilly is born at the exact moment a bus accident claims the lives of Harrison (Charles Grodin), a frustrated singer dogged by stage fright; Milo (Tom Sizemore), a two-bit burglar with a guilty conscience; Julia (Kyra Sedgwick), a young woman who has just let the love of her life get away; and Penny (Alfre Woodard), a single mother who must leave her kids to work the night shift. Soon, the four find themselves earthbound and permanently tied to Thomas – a quartet of loving friends only he can see and hear.
