Filmen inleds med att en kvinna med telepatiska krafter plötsligt inser att en mördare är närvarande i publiken och snabbt blir dennes nästa offer. Pianisten Marcus (David Hemmings från Antonionis Blow-Up) blir vittne till det brutala mordet och dras in i en mordhärva som Argento styr på ett så sensationellt sätt att så väl Tarantino som Carpenter och Clive Barker utsett filmen till ett mästerverk.
